The architect Anthony B. Almeida in Tanzania was one of the first architects to introduce in 1950 modern architecture to Eastern Africa. At first it was meant to design the colonial welfarestate, but after the independence in 1961 the same architecture was used to express the optimism of Nyerere’s African socialism. The film examines what is left of the dreams and ideals of the first generation of African architects. The screening starts on monday May 17 at 19.30 hours with an introduction of executive producer Joep Mol.
