Yes, we recognize the beauties, because the short animation film Logorama we screened at our festival is nominated for an Academy Award! We keep our fingers crossed for the people of H5, especially Nicolas Schmerkin.
The opening film was Visual Acoustics (Eric Brickner, 2008): an impressive and moving documentary about architectural photographer Julius Shulman, who recently died. With his photography Shulman gives many careers a boost, such as architects John Lautner and Frank Gehry. The discussion after the film was about images and content, while enjoying a glass of champagne in the foyer. Late into the night people dance on the beats of Dj Bootsy Paul.
For those who missed the opening: there are still some tickets available for the screening of Visual Acoustics on November 1 at 20:00 in Cinerama 3. More spectacular architecture of the West Coast can be seen in the movies Infinite Space and The Journeyman.
For this day there are over 30 films on the program, including the absolute must-sees Fresno, Malls’ R Us and Somerstown. And form the old box you can see today: Traffic, L’Homme de Rio and Danger Diabolik.
